DRONE PROGRAMS

Take to the skies with NIS' in-house drone equipment! Spanning applications from real estate and law enforcement to roof inspection and videography, drones have become more and more common tools for careers (and hobbyists) of all types.

Commercial Pilot Training - Pt. 107

Ready for take-off! This 2-day comprehensive course will prepare you for the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Test. Also known as the Part 107 exam, this is the required starting point for anyone planning to fly drones commercially. Our expert instruction and interactive learning materials will guide you through the exam’s complexities, ensuring you are fully prepared to take to the skies as a certified commercial drone pilot. This class will also feature hands-on experience flying multiple drones.

REGISTER

The FAA requires participants taking the aeronautical knowledge exam be 16 and older, a U.S. citizen, and be able to read and speak English.
 

Recreational Pilot Licensing (TRUST)

Discover the exhilarating world of recreational drone flying with our engaging and hands-on TRUST Licensing course. You'll learn the essential skills and safety practices needed to enjoy UAV operation as a hobby. Whether you’re interested in capturing stunning aerial photos or simply exploring the skies, our comprehensive instruction and interactive materials will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to fly responsibly.

Our expert instructors will guide you through the FAA's recreational drone license requirements, including the TRUST (The Recreational UAS Safety Test). You’ll gain a solid understanding of airspace regulations, pre-flight procedures, and safe flying practices, ensuring you are well-prepared to enjoy your drone adventures.

This class also includes ample hands-on flight time, where you’ll practice basic maneuvers, explore different flight modes, and learn to troubleshoot common issues. Our goal is to provide a fun, educational, and safe environment for you to develop your drone flying skills.
 

MACHINING CONSULTATIONS

NIS Members can work one-on-one with NIS Staff to overcome fabrication challenges with any of the studio's advanced machines and equipment. With experience in multiple fabrication disciplines, any project can be brought from concept to reality. NIS houses Staff Machinist Elijah J. Paulson to provide trainings for all metalworking equipment. Current programs include:

UNIVERSAL ROBOTICS

SIX-AXIS COLLABORATIVE ROBOT ARMS

NIS has three advanced 6-axis robotic arms, available for certification trainings, research use, and member projects.

Each arm has suites of integrated equipment, including:

- Variable Speed Conveyor Belts (VFD Control)
- Sensopart Vision systems
- Robotiq and Schmaltz End-Of-Arm-Tooling
- Precision Dispensing and Palletizing teaching jigs
- I/O Control of example components and sensors

Universal Robots CORE Training

Master the robotics and automation tools of the future! 

Universal Robots’ CORE Certification curriculum offers a comprehensive three-day program giving participants the skills they need to excel in robot operations. Covering programming, operating, troubleshooting, optimizing and more, this hands-on course equips individuals with the skills they need to navigate the world of collaborative and industrial robotics. 

After successful completion of the class, participants are able to recieve an industry-recognized certification in robotic operation and programming.

Collaborative Robot Welding

Explore robotic welding, automating your way through unique hands-on challenges with precision and efficiency.

Robotic welding is more in-demand than ever, with The American Welding Society predicting a job gap of 336,000 welders needed by 2026. This course familiarizes student of all skill levels with Vectis Automation’s Collaborative Robot Welding Cell, covering efficient welding task planning, designing fixtures, managing labor resources, ensuring high-quality welds, and culminating in a practical project where participants complete real-world welding tasks with zero human intervention.

Included:
- All materials, tools, and equipment used in class
- Welding helmets, jackets, gloves, and PPE (close-toed shoes required)
- Course materials and reference manuals
- Take-home project and completion certificate

WIOA ELIGIBILITY

Certain programs have been recognized by Nebraska's Department of Labor as eligible for need-based financial assistance under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Qualified individuals can request to attend the class through specific jobs assistance networks - namely the American Job Center - and, upon approval, attend the course at zero cost to the individual. Special assistance is also available through the American Job Center network for Veterans and Native American communities. Simply complete the American Job Center's intake process and mention the course you'd like to pursue, or contact the Department of Labor with the specific program name and any questions for more information.
